HYPERTENSION

Hypnotherapy is completely natural, safe and relaxing. You will remain conscious and in complete control during the treatment Hypertension - often referred to simply as "high blood pressure" - affects hundreds of millions around the world.

There’s two kinds of Hypertension, one caused by lifestyle, the other is caused by physical problems, often caused by a problem within the brain which controls blood pressure or in the kidneys.

Hypertension caused by physical problems cannot be helped by hypnotherapy, so please make sure you know which type you have before progressing with therapy, as medication is the only treatment for this type. When we meet we will discuss what you want to achieve from therapy. I will note down some general background and medical information and explain how I use hypnosis to help with hypertension.

With Clinical Hypnotherapy I would look towards lifestyle factors which are in our control such as a lack of exercise, alcohol intake, caffeinated drinks (particularly high energy drinks) smoking, stress and a salt-rich diet. It’s also possible that childhood events, fears and even belief systems can have an impact.

The condition of our mental health also contributes to hypertension with raised levels of stress hormones and unhealthy habits such as an unhealthy diet of food and drink and drugs all add to hypertension, therefore relaxation techniques can help you to avoid your body tensing up, breaking the cycle of stress, tension, fear and pain. Practising simple techniques such as meditation and mindful breathing can help you not only in the hypnotherapy session but can reinforce new habits. Relaxation can also help with chronic pain, tension headaches, migraines and back pain.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

The evidence in support of hypnotherapy for chronic pain management has flourished over the past two decades. Hypnotherapy and the use of hypnosis offer help where medication and alternative treatments have failed. Hypnosis produces a pain relieving effect (analgesic) and alters a persons brain state. Hypnotherapy helps to manage acute and chronic pain as well as chronic pain such as arthritis.

Through hypnosis you will be taught to alter the brain’s perception of the pain message, to turn down the intensity and to produce its own internal medication. By reducing negative thoughts and emotions and focusing on alternatives you will be able to turn down the rate of the pain on a pain scale so that the experience of the pain can be recorded from one therapy session to another to measure your progress. This reduces the stress response and creates a more relaxed state in your mind and body. These positive changes in thought and actions stimulate and increase the important neurotransmitters in the brain, most notably serotonin. Whereas stress hormones pump up the nerve fibres and so increase pain messages, serotonin interrupts the pain signals.

You will be taught self-hypnosis techniques in the form of progressive relaxation inductions which may be of benefit to chronic pain and distraction techniques and the use of visualisations of the pain itself as part of the hypnotherapy session so that you can leave the session feeling that you can learn to manage your pain outside of the hypnotherapy session and this is likely to be achievable the more you can practise these self-hypnosis techniques at home.

Clients suffering from a range of conditions including fibromyalgia, back disorders and pain from trauma such as car accidents or workplace injuries can learn to control their pain through practicing self-hypnosis.

Please consult your GP to diagnose the source of the pain before having Hypnotherapy.

NEEDLE PHOBIA

Needle phobia can be a major problem for individuals who will go to extreme lengths to avoid medical treatments and injections.

HOW HYPNOSIS CAN ALLOW YOU TO RELAX AROUND INJECTIONS

Whether fear of needles is causing a problem because you want to give blood, or you need to have injections for health reasons, or for vaccines  before going abroad, needle phobia can be a major problem and is a very common condition which affects a huge number of people in the population. Hypnotherapy works on your deep unconscious level by suggesting positive words, thoughts and images so changing your negative thoughts and patterns of behaviour allowing you to develop a new perspective and to take back control. Needle phobia maybe treated by systematic desensitization a technique which is done in hypnotherapy. The goal of systematic desensitization is to gradually expose the client to needles in a controlled, safe setting, beginning with seeing a syringe without a needle, then a syringe with a needle and eventually allowing you to handle the needle.

This technique works on the assumption that, by pairing the feared stimulus with relaxation, gradually the client becomes more comfortable and anxiety free with regard to needles. In the hypnotherapy session, the client and I work together formulating a graded hierarchy of situations involving needles – starting with a relatively easy situation and working towards more difficult ones. All clients vary but a 6-week programme which, more often than not, produces excellent results.

Hypnotherapy individual sessions £75.00. Payment is required before a session begins and payment for block bookings is required before the first session begins. If you  would like to book an appointment or find out more contact Lorraine on:  07968 449353 or email.
